Literacy in Northeast Texas

Christina Grimsley
Christina Grimsley is in her third year of the doctoral program at Texas Woman's University where she is studying rhetoric. She completed her B.A in English education from Southeastern Oklahoma State University and her M.A. in rhetoric, language, and composition at Kansas State University where she taught composition and technical writing. Christina has spent the last five years working in the corporate world as an instructional designer and trainer. Her research interests include new media studies and how literacy practices (both print and digital) are defined by those around us; thus, her interest in the literacy acquisition of Northeast Texans.

Frank Alexander
Frank Alexander is a doctoral student in English at Texas A&M-Commerce. He earned his B.A. in English at the University of Texas at Arlington and his M.A. in English at the University of Texas at Austin. Frank has taught English and Developmental Writing at the middle school, high school and undergraduate levels and served as an administrator at a small Christian school. His interest in literacy acquisition in Northeast Texas is due in part to his family roots. His paternal grandmother attended East Texas Normal College for one year, and both his parents and his maternal grandmother earned undergraduate and graduate degrees at East Texas State University.

Jan T. Modisette
Jan T. Modisette is completing her doctoral degree in Supervision, Curriculum, and Instruction at Texas A&M University-Commerce. She earned an MA in English and a BA in Journalism and English at Stephen F. Austin State University, Nacogdoches. Jan has taught and administrated Christian schools since 1980, and she currently teaches developmental reading and writing at Jacksonville College, Jacksonville, Texas. Her academic interestsin literacy in higher education surround motivation of developmental writing students in the two-year college.
